Every year, 1.5 million people in the United States suffer from a traumatic brain injury. That is more than any other disease!

Most of these traumas cause some form of a condition called Hypoxic ischemic
Encephalopathy (or HE for short), brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen to
the brain. To this date, there is no surgery or cure for this type of brain damage,
and until recently, many doctors were not able to help brains recover. But, in
the past few years, there has been new hope through advanced, "experimental" procedures.
Recent research has suggested that experimental treatments
such as umbilical-cord stem cell therapy and neural transplantation show great
promise in helping to restore some brain functions,
which could greatly improve the quality of life of these patients.
Research in the United States is ongoing, but slow and under-funded.
The JBRO team of parents, researchers and physicians believes that eventually
some of these experimental procedures will become commonplace and will be accepted
in the United States.
Therefore, the mission of the Jonathan Brain Recovery Organization (JBRO)
is to TO ACTIVELY EDUCATE, PURSUE RESEARCH, AND SUPPORT TREATMENT for children
with brain dysfunction due to lack of oxygen.
